Open Educational Resources

Open Educational Resources are free accessible and open-access licensed materials for teaching, learning and researching purposes. OER arises as a part of the open-access movement to meet the demand of free and customizable educational material for schools and universities.

Information and links to OER materials are deposited at the Federal Agency for Civic Education. The search engine for educational materials  ELEXIER allows to browse through specific subjects. The webpage ZUM.de provides teaching material, projects and ideas.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is currently funding a joint venture project between the University of Cologne and the University of Kaiserslautern, aiming to train teacher students for OER, called “OERlabs”. The main investigator at the University of Kaiserslautern is Assistant Professor for Education Dr. Mandy Schiefner-Rohs.

For the development of free educational materials under expert guidance, a lab room was set up in the central library (Geb.32) which is available every two weeks on Fridays from 10: 00-13: 00 pm.
