Financing of Open Access Publications

Young scientists (as defined by the Nachwuchsring) can apply for financial support for their open access publication fees (APC - article processing charge) via the central publication fund.

Please note that there are differences in contrast to the previous program:

  • The university library reimburses young scientists a basic grant of 1,000 Euros for each publication.
  • Up to 3,000 Euros per young scientist can be granted once per calendar year.

If the APC is less than the basic funding and the additional criteria, only the amount shown on the invoice will be reimbursed.

The following types of oa publications published in the current calendar year are eligible for funding:

  • contributions to scientific and scholarly journals and conference proceedings, regardless of whether the publication is in a purely oa journal (i.e. gold and hybrid)
  • contributions to edited volumes (gold)
  • collected works (gold)
  • monographs (gold)

Doctoral theses are excluded from funding. These can be published free of charge via KLUEDO.

Please use the checklist on our website to check whether your publication is actually eligible for funding. Information on how to apply for funding can be found here.
